چکیده
Abstract The Gibbs energy Δ G kp ( τ , T ) of kink pair formation on screw dislocations in bcc Nb has been determined as a function shear stress at different temperatures ⩽ 100 K using an accelerated molecular dynamics method and bond-boost potential. From ), the dependence entropy enthalpy could be obtained standard thermodynamic relations. increases with increasing stress, following phenomenologically predicted 1/2 dependence.

The pair distribution function for an array of screw dislocations
The paper addresses the problem of correlation within an array of parallel dislocations in a crystalline solid. The first two of a hierarchy of equations for the multi-point distribution functions are derived by treating the random dislocation distributions and the corresponding stress fields in an ensemble average framework. Asymptotic reasoning, applicable when dislocations are separated by s...
متن کاملDynamics for Systems of Screw Dislocations
The goal of this paper is the analytical validation of a model of Cermelli and Gurtin [12] for an evolution law for systems of screw dislocations under the assumption of antiplane shear. The motion of the dislocations is restricted to a discrete set of glide directions, which are properties of the material. The evolution law is given by a “maximal dissipation criterion”, leading to a system of ...
متن کاملExtended Point Defect Structures at Intersections of Screw Dislocations in Si: A Molecular Dynamics Study
Molecular dynamics computer simulations have been employed with the Tersoff interatomic potential to examine the atomic structure of (a=2) h110i screw dislocations forming regular two-dimensional arrays in silicon. The main attention is focused on the atomic configurations of dislocation intersections. The dislocations are assumed to be undissociated, following HREM observations on the low-angl...

In Subsection 2.1 we have discussed uniqueness only in the special case in which f is discontinuous across a (d − 1)-dimensional hypersurface. The case when two or more such (d− 1)-dimensional hypersurfaces meet is significantly more involved and can lead to non-uniqueness of solutions for Filippov systems (see, e.g., [16]). In our setting, this situation arises at points in the set Eint define...
متن کاملA molecular dynamics study of self-diffusion in the cores of screw and edge dislocations in aluminum
Self-diffusion along screw and edge dislocations in Al is studied by molecular dynamics simulations. Three types of simulations are performed: with pre-existing vacancies in the dislocation core, with pre-existing interstitials, and without any pre-existing defects (intrinsic diffusion). We find that diffusion along the screw dislocation is dominated by the intrinsic mechanism, whereas diffusio...
